Mackenzie – 7 days Old {Houma Newborn Photographer}

Mackenzie’s mommy and my sister went to high school together so when my sister wanted to gift a newborn session to Ashley, I was more than excited! When we arrived at Mackenzie’s house, she was wide awake, but it didn’t take her long to succumb to the warmth of the heating pad and space heater! Once she was asleep, she slept through almost the rest of her session, a perfect little angel! Ashley and Dean, she’s absolutely gorgeous and I’m so thankful to be able to meet and photograph her!

And what if my newborn doesn’t want to sleep for pictures? Well, that’s ok too! That was the case with Ms. Zielah who had just woken from a nap when I arrived and showed no signs of sleeping any time soon. Her mommy said she was awake and alert from birth, so she wasn’t surprised. She just stared all around, looking at everyone and everything in sight. She loved sucking on her hands and was such a precious little peanut!

Photographing newborns can be one of two things – very easy or very hard. You have to have a lot of patience and be willing to sit around for an hour or more, waiting for the baby to fall asleep in order to get those great sleepy shots (if that’s what the parents want.) Some babies just refuse to sleep and in that case, you get alert, wide awake shots – and thats ok too. Little Ms. Molly, however, was an absolute dream to photograph. She was sound asleep from the second I walked in the door and no matter what we did to her, she didn’t make a peep. We changed hats, headbands, positions, blankets – it didn’t matter, she was knocked out! And the great thing is that Molly’s mommy is really into photography, so she knew what she wanted and she understood what I had to do. Its always easier when the parents go into a session knowing what I do and how I work – it really relaxes everyone and makes the session that much better. So without any further chatter, here’s Ms. Molly and her adorable chubby cheeks
This was a special request from Molly’s mommy and I just love how it turned out …
