Welcome To Jamie Heyl Photography!

"For every step of your life"

People often ask me what my favorite type of photography is and I answer differently at different times, depending on what I am doing or working on. I love taking photos, of every kind ... well, not landscape or pet photos, but always "people" photos.

It is often said in the photography world that you can not specialize in everything, and I believe that. Not every photographer can be the best at every type of photography - I know I have plenty to learn about lots of different things. I am always learning and growing. But I can LOVE every type of photography which is why the tag line of my business is "for every step of your life."

I love to watch my clients and their families grow. To photograph a couple from their engagement through their wedding and then the birth of their first child is an amazing experience. Then to watch that child grow through their first years, graduate from high school and start the cycle over is awe-inspiring. I haven't quite been in business long enough for that, but I have had the privelige of photographing the weddings of some of my Senior clients!

So whether you are just beginning to build your family or your family is growing up and moving on, I would be honored to be a part of that. To photograph the love between you and your partner grow into a tiny family and then follow that family through the college years and beyond - its the part of my job that I will always love the most. So thank you for considering me to photograph every step of your life.

Jamie

Personal Thoughts

Posted on March 19, 2011

This is not the type of post I usually make on my business blog.  I have a family blog for personal things (although its been severely neglected since Christmas!) but there are a few things going on in my life right  now that will be affecting my business and I wanted to get them all out in the open, maybe make myself feel a little less stressed about all of the changes!

Many of my clients know by now that my husband has accepted a job in Houma, so we will be moving there in the next few weeks.  Initially, we probably would have stayed in Morgan City with him working in Houma, but things didn’t work out that way.  Our house sold after being on the market less than a month, leaving us with the decision to move.  I’m a bit sad about leaving Morgan City but have no intentions of completely moving my business from here.  Yes, the studio will eventually be moved to Houma because with 2 small kids, it just makes more sense for us as a family to have everything close together, but I already have a client-base in Houma, so why not keep my client-base in Morgan City?  Its a short drive and you guys won’t mind coming to me, right :-)   And I’ll definitely still come here to you as often as I need to!

So, in the next couple of weeks, we’ll be closing on the house and moving from Morgan City … but we aren’t sure exactly where we’ll be moving!  We had planned to purchase an unfinished home in Houma and have been working hard to finish it in time to move in, but now we’re running into title issues and the closing has been delayed.  Needlesstosay, the next couple of weeks will be very stressful and hectic for us as we figure out what we’ll do and where we’ll go – right in the middle of my busy Senior / wedding season!  Perfect timing, right?

Speaking of Seniors, you guys only have a few more weeks to schedule portraits in order to have them in time for graduation.   Online galleries are posted two weeks after your session and orders take another week to come in, so when deciding to schedule, please keep this in mind.  I won’t be able to do any rushed sessions this year, so sessions should be scheduled before April 15.  Please check the online calendar for available dates!

This coming week will also be especially hectic for me, so I’m glad there are only a handful of things I need to move around.  My sister is scheduled for an induction in Lafayette on Monday, so we’ll be there probably all day, waiting for the baby to arrive.  On Tuesday, I’ll be heading to New Orleans for my grandmother’s funeral, absolutely something I’m not looking forward to :-(   Then, it will be back to Lafayette on Wednesday or Thursday to take my new niece’s newborn photos.  And finally, on Saturday, I am shooting a wedding at Nottoway Plantation, which I have been looking forward to for over a year now!

So please be patient if I am running behind on emails or phone calls for a few days.  I will almost definitely not be returning calls on Monday or Tuesday, though I should be able to respond to short emails on my phone.  I’ll catch up with you all later in the week!

And because I don’t like posting things without a photo, I bring you the beautiful “B” triplets, who you first met as itty bitty babies, 7 months ago!  I’ll have a longer post about them and their session in a week or so, but here’s just one for now – here are Maddie, Kyler and Cora -
