Beth – 2011 Senior {Morgan City Senior Photographer}
Posted on April 19, 2011
A couple of years ago, I had a beautiful and sweet senior rep named Brittany. I really enjoyed working with both Brittany and her mom, Penny, so I was thrilled when they called for me to photograph Brittany’s younger sister, Beth. She’s just as sweet and just as beautiful and we had a great time taking her senior portraits on a gorgeous Friday afternoon. Once again, I was able to photograph around the Garber property in Berwick, always a favorite location. I loved Beth’s choice of clothing, so cute and trendy and great colors for the location we were in. She also had a special shot she wanted to take, one that was Brittany’s idea. They’ll be sharing an apartment next year when they are both at LSU!
Love this, such a fun idea for a cap and gown photo! My daughter looked at it and said “Super Why!” LOL … that’s a kids show she watches, but I guess it doesn’t kind of have that super-hero-Clark-Kent look
Beth has a great smile, it lights up her face:
Amanda – Part 1 – 2011 Senior {Morgan City Senior Photographer}
Posted on April 18, 2011
Last December, I met Amanda when I took some family portraits for her mom. I really enjoyed meeting them all and upon discovering that her mom sold Scentsy, promptly became a pretty regular customer (I love the stuff!) A couple of months ago, I was looking for a babysitter and my neighbor suggested Amanda and her sister, Kellee and I immediately got in touch with them and I’m so grateful that I did.
March and April are two of the busiest months of the entire year for me and this year, they happened to coincide with many, many other big events in our life – my husband starting a new job, selling our house and our lot, moving to Houma, the birth of my niece and the death of my grandmother. All of these things happened within about 3 weeks or so on top of senior portraits, bridals and engagements and a handful of weddings. So to say that I was drowning is an understatement. What does this have to do with Amanda? Well, I’ve never been big on babysitters. Not because I didn’t trust them or didn’t want to leave my kids with them, but because I never had much of a need. Every now and then I’d have to call someone to come in for an hour or so, but it wasn’t a regular occurrence. I could always have the kids stay with my mom or my husband was readily available. The very few times I did need someone, I usually had a hard time finding a babysitter that was available because I really only had 2-3 people I could call.
Amanda and her sister Kellee have never let me down, ever. Over the last weeks, they’ve come at a moments notice, stayed for hours, watched the kids at my studio, took them to the park or just kept them busy while we were loading the moving van. They don’t just sit thee and supervise – they take walks, play, draw, ride bikes and have fun. The kids both truly enjoy being with them (although you wouldn’t know it by seeing Emelyn’s reaction to my leaving, but that’s another blog post.) I even came home one night after a wedding to find both kids in bed and a clean house! What’s even more amazing about these girls is that their mom is currently in India with their older brother while he receives stem cell therapy. I have kept up with their journey and Wes’ progress (which is pretty amazing) and have talked to the girls a little about it. I imagine that its been very hard on the whole family, but Amanda and Kellee seem like such responsible, level-headed girls and are doing great. I was honored to be able to work with Amanda for her senior portraits; especially since her mom couldn’t be here with her, so I hope I was able to make the experience fun and memorable. I also hope her mom loves the photos
Amanda’s session was nothing short of an adventure and this is just part 1 … we started out in what we thought was going to be a huge field of buttercups, but the grass had been cut and there weren’t as many as we thought. We still got some great shots in that location, however, and moved on to our next. After being dive-bombed by wood bees and freaking out because of a few bugs and lizards (that would be me), we decided to head to our 3rd location. Before we went, though, I was explaining to Amanda how I really wanted to be comfortable in this field we were going to and wanted some rubber boots. We decided to go to Walmart and buy some, stopping at her house on the way to pick up some she already owned. Yes, we took a trip to Walmart in the middle of Amanda’s senior portrait session
Once we had the boots, we were on our way! We found an amazing field and it was at the perfect time of day, beautiful golden light was bathing the tall grass and I couldn’t wait to get started. Both of us put our boots on and took a short hike through the grass, finding the perfect spot … I placed the chair where I wanted it, got Amanda in the right place and pose, lifted the camera and …. NOTHING. I wanted to melt into the spot right then and there … my battery was D-E-A-D and I knew immediately that there was nothing I could do. I had shot a wedding the night before and apparently misplaced not only my extra battery but the charger as well. I felt so bad that we weren’t going to finish her session that day, but Amanda laughed it off and assured me it was ok. We scheduled an additional session for a few days later and I’m happy to report that it turned out just as I planned … but you’ll have to wait to see those images. In the meantime, here is part 1 of her session!
Amanda had some killer heels for her session!
Carin & Jared – Engaged {New Orleans Wedding Photographer}
Posted on April 18, 2011
Almost every engagement session I do starts with a sigh of relief as my couples realize that I’m not just going to vaguely point to a spot and tell them to be spontaneous. I often get comments that they are “so happy you tell us what to do.” Yes, I do love to capture those real, spontaneous moments, but often, they are “created.” When I’m working with a couple, these are two people that are in love and enjoy being with each other – there are going to be secret glances, little giggles and gentle touches, its just a matter of capturing the real in between the set-ups. Carin and Jared had plenty of these real moments and they were a lot of fun to work with and I think were a little relieved that I was going to give them some direction!
We met on a beautiful Sunday afternoon during a weekend trip to New Orleans while Jared was in town. Jared is currently in Afghanistan with the US Army and only had 2 weeks home to see his friends and family. He won’t be back until shortly before their wedding next fall.
I can’t imagine what its like to have so much distance between you and the person you love and I’m sure Carin can’t wait until the fall when Jared will return!
