Mine on Monday

Posted on May 24, 2010

My baby boy had his preschool graduation from Presbyterian on Friday.  I got him the cutest  little outfit, I guess you could consider it his first “suit” and he did so well.  They sang a bunch of songs then each child went up to get their diploma.  They all bowed after receiving it, it was so cute.  Unfortunately, we weren’t able to get decent photos of him on the stage.  The one photo that would have come out, I put my hand up to wave at him and it covered the lens :-(  We did take pictures outside of the school afterwards.  This is actually a location I use quite often for all kinds of portraits – its especially great for kids and families.  Here’s a quick snap my mom took of us after the ceremony:

After the graduation, we headed to Ichiban for some hibachi – its a favorite of myself, Hayden and my mom.  After eating lunch, we had to pick up our finalized house plans in Thibodaux and then something I had been looking forward to for weeks … a family portrait session for ourselves!  I spend so much time behind the camera and yes, I take tons of pictures of my own kids, but I’ve always wanted to have someone else photograph them as well as us, interacting with them.  I knew that Christian Burge would be the right choice for us as looking through her work.  It was just the right mix of candid and casually posed shots and I fell in love with her processing style … very simple and clean with hints of vintage edginess every now and then.  I was thrilled when she agreed to drive from Picayune, where her studio is, to meet us in the Quarter and was instantly comfortable with her.  She did an amazing job and gave us a little sneak peek the very next day.  If you’d like to check out some peeks from our session, you can see them on my Facebook page.  I should have the rest in just a couple of weeks and will have a bigger share for you at that time.  Christian caught the essence of our family in just these few shots so I can only imagine how much we’ll love the rest of the images!  She travels to New Orleans often and has a studio in Picayune, MS, so if you are looking for a wonderful, down-to-earth photographer, be sure to check her out!

Mine on … Friday

Posted on May 14, 2010

Yes, its suppose do to be “Mine on Monday” just like there’s “What to Wear Wednesday” and “Flashback Friday” but oh well, today you get Mine on Friday.  When I was taking Reagan’s photos the other day, Emelyn was with me (Hayden was at school).  She was a little jealous that I was taking pictures of another baby, so she kept plopping herself down on my “sets.”  I took some shots of her to test lighting and such, so here she is, my 18 month old bundle of energy and sass – Ms. Emelyn!

First, she tested out my lighting and bean bag set up … once we were outside, she helped herself to my stash of flower head pieces and insisted that I put her INSIDE the bucket just like I did with Reagan!

Photog Shootout – New Orleans

Posted on February 25, 2010

I was so excited about the shootout yesterday, I had been looking forward to it since I first found out about it. What is a shootout? Basically, it was 50+ photographers following 4 models around downtown New Orleans listening to 4 other (amazing) photographers and learning from them. It was such a fun and educational experience, I learned so much in those few short hours. I also got to meet some really great photographers / people / friends as well as seeing lots of old friends who I don’t get to see enough! It all started with Rob Ninja, who organizes the whole shootout thing … they happen all over the country. He got together with Beebe Tran, Mark Eric, Jason Cohen and Jamie Orillion – who were the “teachers” for the day, and Photog Shootout NOLA was born.

People passing by were probably wondering what the heck was going on as they saw brides posing with 10-15 cameras pointed at them – some photographers on the ground, others standing on news vans (LOL).  And it was freezing!!  The poor models threw on jackets in between poses, trying to stay warm – they were all so great, though.

I started out intending to take a lot of photos but I realized that I preferred just sitting back and listening to the teachers.  Every time I tried to get a shot, I felt like I was getting in someone’s way, so I mostly just stood back and absorbed.  It was definitely fun and I cannot wait until next time!

After the shootout, we headed to Mother’s for a cocktail party with food and drinks along with the most amazing bread pudding ever.  I had never tasted bread pudding before because I just didnt’ like the way it looked but Corine made me take a bite and then I had to get my own.  Its going to be featured on Food Networks “The Best Thing I Ever Ate!”

Here are a handful of shots I got from the day:
